Chandrababu Naidu made light of YSRCP's proposed dharna against his government in support of the farmers.
He said that by implementing the first phase of the loan waiver scheme, his Party had proved itself a pro-farmer Party whereas the late YSR and now Jagan were anti-farmers.
At a media briefing, Chandrababu read out a statement made by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy that loan waiver scheme would not be beneficial to farmers as it would inculcate indiscipline among them and cause collapse of banking institutions.
Is this not what the RBI had been warning against all along? If other politicians across the country were to follow Naidu and KCR’s promises of loan waivers made with the sole objective of coming to power, will the banks be in a position to sustain the losses and severe disruption of money flow? And who would be footing the bill for the loan waiver of the farmers?
The rest of the people in the State in the form of taxation! With all due respect to the farmers, they would probably repay fresh loans until 2019 and then wait for another pre-poll promise of a loan waiver.
What is the need of the hour is to provide the farmers with all suitable amenities and infrastructure enabling them to become successful farmers such as 24/7 power, fair subsidies etc.
These kinds of populist schemes by Naidu will only end up taxing the common public even more and also turn the farmers into parasites instead of enabling them to lead a life of dignity.
By comparing himself with the late YSR on this issue, Naidu infact has only revealed his immaturity and opportunism.
