Yet another Telugu daily is all set to hit the stands in Telangana very shortly, probably by Dasara.
Interestingly, the daily is coming from the business house of former MP G Vivek, who had defected from the Congress to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi twice in the last four years.
The daily, with the title “Velugu,” will be the sister concern of popular Telangana television channel V6, promoted by Vivek.
The works on installation of printing press are going on at brisk pace, while the recruitment of editorial team has almost been completed.
The team is headed by former business desk head of Andhra Jyothy. Several prominent journalists have joined the team, it is learnt.
It is interesting to see what political stand Vivek would take in the daily.
Normally, in the TRS scheme of things, no other party leader should launch any media venture, since it would pose competition for party president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s own media – T News channel, Namasthe Telangana Telugu daily and Telangana Today English daily.
Since V6 is an old channel, KCR did not ask Vivek to close it down and the channel has also turned pro-TRS after the former MP joined the TRS.
Under these circumstances, Vivek launching a Telugu daily in Telangana has created flutters in the TRS.
Though there were pressures from Pragathi Bhavan, he reportedly made it clear that he would run the Telugu daily independently purely as a business venture and it has nothing to do with the party.
May be Vivek is getting ready to face the political consequences for his daring step. If he can run the new daily with independent editorial policy, his days in the TRS would be numbered without any doubt!
