Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Friday deplored the way the Congress MLCs switched their loyalties to the TRS.
“They should not have done so. We cannot stop those who want to join other parties for selfish gains”, he added.
Speaking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday, Ponnala found fault with the leaders for changing parties after enjoying party posts here for long time.
“Unmindful of defections, I failed to prevent them”, Lakshmaiah said, adding that people will praise him when leaders join the Congress, but will criticize when they leave the party.
Ponnala recalled that he had already stated that he would own responsibility for elections results before taking up the Congress chief post.
“I am a responsible leader and will try to put in concerted efforts to strengthen our party at all levels. A membership drive will soon begin”, he said.
