Behind The Scene: Who Led Amalapuram Rites?

The unfortunate rites in Amalapuram have exposed two factors – the strong caste disputes in the Godavari districts between the Kapus and SCs and the political conspiracy to destabilise the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

The first factor of caste disputes have been there in the two Godavari districts, particularly in the Konaseema region for decades.

The Kapus and the SCs resort to even physical attacks and violence for no reason in the region.

But never the groups resorted to this sort of violence that was seen at Amalapuram in May this year.

It all started with the government issuing notification to rename the Konaseema district as Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district.

The Kapus and Settibalija were vociferous in opposing the decision and have led the agitation in the entire Konaseema region.

Initially it was only a caste dispute which could have been settled the involvement of the police giving counselling to the warring groups.

But the political interests have entered and dominated the issue leading to violence.

Finally, after thorough investigation through the CCTV and other video footages, the police have arrested over 150 accused so far.

Among those who were arrested, the Jana Sena activists are more in number.

There were 62 persons belonging to the Jana Sena, 21 members from the TDP, five from the BJP and another five from the YSR Congress.

The police have also identified another 46 persons who doesn’t belong to any political party.

The numbers show who was behind the riots and the disturbances that sparked violence in the region.
