Vijayawada's Nagul Meera To Quit TDP

K Nagul Meera, a BC minority leader from the Vijayawada West Assembly constituency is now hitting the headlines.

A staunch loyalist of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Meera had been a strong pillar of the party in the constituency for over 25 years.

Whenever the TDP was in trouble, Meera shouldered the responsibility and was made a scapegoat by fielding him from the constituency in 1999 and 2009.

With his brother, K Chand, representing the trade unions in the city, Meera stood firmly for the party for all these years.

Though the party had won the 2014 elections, Chandrababu Naidu rewarded Buddha Venkanna with MLC seat, ignoring Meera.

After Meera expressed his displeasure, he was rewarded with the chairman of the AP Police Housing Corporation.

But, after the party’s humiliating defeat in the 2019 general elections and due to the internal squabbles within the party in the urban unit, Meera is understandably uncomfortable with the party.

He is counted by neither the Kesineni Nani group nor the Devineni Uma group.

It is understood that Meera, had thus forced into a situation where has to look for alternatives.

Sources say that he is in touch with the ruling YSR Congress leaders and is holding consultations with them.

The social media is talking about his possible joining the YSR Congress in the last week of February, while Meera’s close associates say that they have no such indications.
