Summer Box Office: Wasted With No Biggies

Summer Box Office: Wasted With No Biggies

April is concluded with no hits at the box office. As May commences, the box office slate appears equally lackluster, with no standout releases on the horizon.

In the first week of May, films such as Aa Okkati Adakku, Prasannavadanam, Baak, Jitender Reddy, and Sabari are set to hit the screens. Among these, only Aa Okkati Adakku and Prasannavadanam carry some expectations.

Moving into the second week, audiences anticipate Krishnamma, marking Satyadev's return to the screen after a prolonged hiatus. Presented by director Koratala Siva, Krishnamma stands as the sole release for that period, with the possibility of 2-3 smaller films vying for attention.

The third week sees the release of Gangs of Godavari, Satya Bhama, and Raju Yadav. Of these, the Vishvak Sen-starrer Gangs of Godavari garners considerable interest. Additionally, there may be room for 2 more short films to make their mark.

In the fourth week, Love Me, Harom Hara, and Music Shop Murthy are scheduled to release. Among these, Love Me stands out, backed by its association with Dil Raju Productions.

Thu, with the absence of major releases, the May box office is dominated by smaller and mid range films. The postponement of Prabhas' 'Kalki 2898 AD' has further contributed to the underwhelming state of affairs, rendering the entire month seemingly uneventful.

But this unexpected turn of events presents an opportunity for films like Love Me, Aa Okkati Adakku, and Gangs of Godavari to shine. If they hold on to the audience, they have the potential to sustain the box office for a duration of 10 days. Otherwise, the month of May also goes waste, making the Summer 2024 a maiden over.
