Seek re-election, Srikanth Reddy tells Naidu

The AP government whip and senior MLA G Srikantha Reddy had pooh-poohed the demands of the Opposition TDP to seek fresh mandate by the Jaganmohan Reddy government on the capital decentralization.

He said that people have given their verdict just seven months ago and the mandate was clearly for the YSR Congress. The mandate is for five years, he said.

However, if the TDP wanted fresh mandate, he sought to advise the Opposition party to make all its MLAs resign and seek fresh mandate.

“Let Chandrababu Naidu also resign as Kuppam MLA and all the TDP MLAs seek re-election against decentralization proposal of the government,” Srikanth Reddy said.

The TDP is spearheading the agitation against the decentralization as some farmers of the capital villages are holding protests against shifting executive and judicial capital from Amaravati.

The farmers and the TDP have been insisting on Amaravati to be continued as the capital of the state with the Secretariat and High Court continued here.

The Congress, CPI, CPM, Jana Sena and the BJP, which have no representation in the State Assembly, are also supporting the TDP’s demand.

The BJP and the Jana Sena have committed that they would seek legal protection to continue Amaravati as capital with Secretariat and High Court and not just with legislature.

Srikanth Reddy wanted TDP, which claims to have the support of the people of all the 13 districts and all other opposition parties, to resign from Assembly and seek reelection, if they are sure of peoples’ support.

Will Chandrababu Naidu accept this advice and quit in support of his demand on Amaravati, instead of holding protests across the state, which he opposed during his term?
