Jagan Removes Agriculture Debt Scheme Brought By TDP

Jagan Removes Agriculture Debt Scheme Brought By TDP

In a swift and silent move, AP government had dropped the much-talked about and much-claimed loan waiver scheme of Chandrababu Naidu’s government.

A GO was released on Thursday cancelling the GO issued by the TDP government for the payment of the fourth and fifth instalments to the farmers under the scheme.

TDP chief had promised total loan waiver to the farmers, women and weavers during the 2014 elections.

When the YSR Congress contested this promise and complained to the Election Commission, the TDP gave a long letter justifying the promise and claiming to have plans to pool up funds to implement it.

The 2014 elections were fought, among others, on the loan waiver promise of Chandrababu Naidu, who finally won with 102 seats in the 175-member House.

The TDP chief was silent on the loan waiver for almost three years. Later, he introduced scale of finance and brought the total loan waiver promise to the maximum of Rs 1.50 lakh and pay it in five instalments with 10 per cent rate of interest every year.

In the last quarter of the third year, Naidu paid the first instalment, followed by second instalment in the fourth year.

The third instalment was paid in March 2019, just before the 2019 general elections and had issued GO MS No. 38 on March 10, 2019, giving budget sanctions for the payment of the fourth and fifth instalments of the loan waiver, while paying the third instalment in March.

Naidu, did everything in the last minute to win the elections and had launched new schemes to the farmers and women, paying them huge amounts under Pasupu Kumkuma for women and Annadaata Sukheebhava for farmers, without clearing the fourth and fifth instalments of the loan wavier scheme.

Having lost the elections, despite all these dolls, Naidu asked Jaganmohan Reddy to release the fourth and fifth instalments of the loan waiver to the farmers.

The YSR Congress pooh-poohed the demand, and finally Jaganmohan Reddy government had washed off its hands by refusing to fulfil what TDP had promised but failed.
