Don't care BJP alliance with TDP: Jagan

CM Jagan Mohan Reddy said his party was not bothered about the BJP forging an alliance with the TDP for the May 13 elections in Andhra Pradesh.

“It is purely the decision of the BJP. Every party can take its own decisions depending on their political interests. Why should we be concerned about it? They take their decisions and we have our own choices,” Jagan said, in an interview to Times Now editor Navika Kumar.

She asked Jagan whether he was disappointed with the BJP choosing TDP as its partner, though the YSRCP had helped the BJP at the Centre a lot by supporting crucial bills in Rajya Sabha.

“We have not given support to the Centre not because we expected some help from the BJP. We supported only those issues which were in the interest of the nation. We don’t support if the decisions are bad. Our support to the Centre was only issue-based,” the chief minister said.

Stating that the Congress and the BJP had little role to play in Andhra Pradesh, Jagan said the fight in the elections was between two regional parties.

“Since there is no role for the national parties in the state, the question of forging an alliance with either of them doesn’t arise. Moreover, I was never interested in alliances with any party,” he said.

The YSRCP president said he was of the view that he had provided a great governance to the state in the last five years and hence, he was going alone in the elections.

Asked whether he had got any assurance from the Centre on the special category status to Andhra Pradesh, Jagan said unfortunately the subject was not made part of the AP Reorganisation Bill by the then Congress government and after the bifurcation, Chandrababu Naidu had compromised with the NDA government on special category status.

“Both the national parties have betrayed the state on special category status. But I am confident the state would get it one day or the other, if the parties in Delhi do not get enough numbers to form the government,” he said.
