Producers Not Learning from Recent Duds

Rajamouli’s “RRR” was sold for unimaginable amounts in all areas. To recover the amount, the makers had used all their influence on both the Telugu state governments and got special permission to hike the ticket rates. “RRR” was screened at the highest ticket prices ever in Telangana.

Luckily, the film managed to recover investment in Telangana. But in Andhra, many small buyers and exhibitors have lost their money. The return on the investment for many others was meager.

Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan’s “Acharya” was also sold for high prices and the makers opted for high ticket prices. The film turned out to be a huge dud. All distributors had recovered just 20 percent of their investment.

The distributors of “Sarkaru Vaari Paata” have barely got their money.

The trend is clear. Only big action dramas (KGF2) and visual spectacles (RRR) can bring massive openings. Others have to depend purely on word-of-mouth and reviews. Given this situation, it is foolish to demand big money from the distributors for upcoming biggies.

Buzz is that the makers of Trivikram and Mahesh Babu’s film are quoting prices in the range of Rs 130 to 140 crore for theatrical business.

For Andhra and Nizam, they are demanding Rs 40 crore for each area. For Ceded, they are expecting Rs 15 crore. The ideal way is to cut down the quote and make more profits if the film becomes a big hit.

If Trivikram’s film manages to get these amounts, then other biggies like ‘NTR30’, ‘RC15’, ‘Salaar’, and ‘Pushpa 2’ demand more. Clearly, our makers have not learned lessons from recent experiences.
