Mass suicides case: TRS sacks fugitive MLA's son

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Friday announced suspension of Vanama Raghavendra Rao alias Raghava, who had been booked by the Kothagudem police for allegedly abetting the mass suicides of four members of a family at Palvancha on Monday last.

Raghava, son of Kothagudem TRS MLA Vanama Venkateshwar Rao, has been absconding ever since the mass suicides took place.

His father, too, issued a statement, saying Raghava would cooperate with the police investigation and till such time, he would be kept away from the party activities.

However, the TRS leadership has taken the mass suicides very seriously after the family head mentioned in his selfie-video that Raghava had asked him to send his wife for a day if his property issues should be settled.

Following instructions from TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, TRS state general secretary Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and party’s Khammam affairs in-charge Nukala Naresh Reddy announced that Raghava would be suspended from the party with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the Kothagudem police, who initially leaked to the media that they had arrested Raghava from Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon, changed their tune by evening said he had not been arrested.

Confusion prevailed over the arrest of the MLA’s son as the television news channels have broadcast news claiming that he was arrested by police in Hyderabad on Thursday, though the police have not made any official announcement about the same.

Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt said in a statement here on Friday said the police teams have extensively been searching for Raghava and the fugitive would soon be nabbed.

“Efforts were on to trace him out and to arrest. Support from police in the neighbouring districts was also being taken for the purpose,” he said.

The Manugur police also served a notice to Raghava asking him to appear for investigation in connection with another case of abetment of suicide booked against him at Paloncha police station.

Since he was absconding the notice was pasted on the wall of his residence. The MLA’s son was asked to appear before the investigating officer in the case, Manugur ASP.
