H-1B Lottery Strategies

H-1B Lottery Strategies

In 2023 the number of H-1B applicants for the lottery is expected to be more than half a million. Many wonder how to maximize their chances in the H-1B lottery, and some are still searching for an employer who can sponsor them for the H-1B lottery in 2023.

Most Indian implementation partners maintain a strict queue when sponsoring employees for the H-1B lottery.

Usually, seniority in the job position plays a significant role, but favouritism and nepotism also influence who gets sponsored for the H-1B lottery when working for an Indian implementation partner. Therefore, instead of waiting for your turn in the queue, choosing a smaller IT consulting firm that can sponsor your H-1B immediately is better.

Indian implementation partners also do not sponsor the green card till the fifth year of the employee in H-1B status. In many cases, the green card process is not completed, and the H-1B employee completes the six years and has to depart the USA for one year at least.

Indian implementation partners create the illusion that an employee's career and H-1B visa is secure with them. This is far from the truth. During layoffs, Indian implementation partners immediately send the H-1B employee back to India. A smaller IT consulting company can find another end client for the H-1B employee immediately.

A smaller IT consulting company can also let the H-1B employee work remotely from home. As a result, an H-1B employee in a smaller IT consulting company can do two projects simultaneously and earn a higher salary, while Indian implementation partners mandatorily require the H-1B employee to work from the office and only lets them work for one end client and pay a significantly lower salary.

There is also a myth that an applicant can only have one slot per applicant in the H-1B lottery. This is not true. If an applicant has multiple job offers from completely unrelated companies, the applicant can be registered for multiple slots in the H-1B lottery.
